Because their game was canceled due to transportation issues at the sending school, ConVal’s Unified Soccer Team played a scrimmage against the Cougars Boys Soccer Team.

On Sunday, April 2, the ConVal Music Department held a mattress fundraiser in the gym.

What sounds like an outlandish idea — bringing an entire mattress showroom into a school for a day to raise funds for student activities — proved to be highly successful with early estimates for a profit exceeding $6,000.

8th Grade students in Mrs. Lyons Science classes are working in partnership with the NH Fish and Game through “Trout in the Classroom Program”. Mrs. Lyons and her students have received cold water trout eggs and supplies in December to start the project.

Before the Holiday break, 8th grade students came back to 7th grade for a ceremony to celebrate a mirror installation. Last year, 7th grade students worked together to demonstrate school-wide expectations and raise funds for a new bathroom mirror.

Our preschoolers learned about bats with Harris Center educator Jaime this week. Students learned about how bats use echo-location to help them fly at night. They also learned about how our hands are similar to a bats wings and tried moving around with their eyes closed!

GES celebrated an all school Art Day on Friday, 4/8/22. Students created beautiful sunflower collages. Individual students used water colors to paint one fourth of a sunflower image. The images were then put together to make a whole flower.

HES students showed their creativity while they rotated through different art projects on Art Day. From kites and stained glass, to bird nests and flowers, students had such a good time!

Students in Ben Putnam’s ceramics class learn the art of creating objects by carefully wedging clay, then shaping it with hand-building techniques or using the pottery wheel or extruder.

The completed objects are dried and fired in an electric kiln and finally decorated where different ceramic glazes and painting techniques are employed.

On Saturday, February 12, ConVal High School had two teams compete in the 25th annual Nor’easter Bowl competition, the regional competition of the National Ocean Science Bowl (NOSB).

Congratulations to the ConVal Ocean Bowl Team 2 who was the runner up in the final scoring of the competition and placed second only to the team from Phillips Exeter Academy.

Ms. Muncy’s Biology class, which is made up mostly of sophomores and juniors, were led remotely through a lab that involved the dissection of a crayfish.

The aim of the lab was for students to work independently or in pairs in order to achieve a greater understanding of the invertebrate through hands-on dissection and exploration of crustacean anatomy.

South Meadow School was able to hold their Annual Turkey Trot challenge this year for all students that were able to be in person. This event is when students participate in a school wide effort to bring awareness to the SMS Food Pantry and celebrate physical fitness by walking or running a pre-determined course.

Pierce School started it’s after school biking club earlier this month. The biking club is run by our 4th-grade teacher, Valerie Germain, and allows 3rd and 4th-grade students to get out on the trails behind Pierce School with one of their favorite teachers and friends in the fresh fall air.

The ConVal Band performed at the Eastern States Exposition on Friday, September 27th during Harvest Day. They entertained crowds on the Storrowton Green and along the parade route.

The drumline performed a number of cadences and the band played music hi-liting decades of Americana Music.

Griffin Kelley, who is a co-teacher in Mr. Wozmak’s U.S. History course, introduces the class to an assignment that involves the creation of a comprehensive timeline.

Children and the Arts Festival

During Spirit Week students focused on the many ways to show respect by representing Sportsmanship, Recycling (Crazy Hair Day), Dreaming of Respect (Pajama Day), Earth Day and Respectful Book Character Day.

Students at AES just finished a month-long exposure to computer coding during their after school coding club. Organized by Mr. Stultz and Mrs. Syre-Hager, students had the opportunity to learn the basics of coding while working with kid-friendly themes such as Star Wars and Angry Birds.

Last week, FES students had a new experience in our Library Commons. Knowing that students often stick to one kind of book Library Media Specialist, Nicole Murray, wanted to encourage students to branch out and get a taste for different genres.

Students participated in the 3rd Annual Environmental Art Contest, sponsored by NH Plastic Pollution Alliance, Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation and Surfrider Foundation, New Hampshire Chapter! This contest was designed to encourage children to think about how issues such as plastic pollution impact the environment around them and what they can do to decrease this pollution on in everyday life.

Certificates are being awarded to students modeling outstanding examples of behavior that is Respectful, Safe & Kind.  Students then get to have the certificates stamped in the office and decorate a paw print that will be displayed in the gym.

Pierce School celebrated Halloween on Tuesday, October 31st! Students, staff, and Bennington
community members joined for an annual parade through town. Scarecrows and carved pumpkins made by Pierce School students were displayed outside the school for all to enjoy.

ConVal’s Envirothon Team, led by science teacher Dana Wood, went to the Kingman Farm at UNH to participate in the annual soil judging competition. Student examined different soil types and had to decide on best use.

 Antrim Elementary School has been awarded an Artist in Residence grant for the 2015-2016 school year.  This award is made possible by appropriations from the Governor,State Legislature, and a National Endowment for the Arts grant to the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts.
