Four Performances, Four Gold Medals At Great East Music Festival

On Friday, May 12, the ConVal High School Band and Choir, GBS Band, and SMS Band all performed at the Great East Music Festival. 132 music students between the three schools left early Friday morning for East Hampton, MA, where they performed for adjudicators. All four ensembles received gold medal ratings! The ensembles were rated on their tone/intonation, technique, musicianship, and overall effectiveness.

The SMS 7th and 8th-grade band went first performing “Remember Me” from Coco and “Pueblo, Land of Ancient Peoples” by John Higgins. Edward Lowy said about his Band, “It was an all-around complete performance.”

Great Brook School’s 7th and 8th grade band performed two pieces titled, “(Risk) Everything For A Dream” and “Black Forest Overture.” “(Risk) Everything For A Dream” had a wonderful lyrical setting and “Black Forest Overture” featured a few soloists. The GBS 7th and 8th graders showed up ready to perform and they definitely delivered!

The ConVal Band performed James Swearingen’s “Aventura” and a medley from Disney/Pixar’s “Brave.” One of the adjudicators told the Band how much he enjoyed the energy from their performance.

The ConVal Choir closed the performance with Coldplay’s “Fix You” and Jacob Narverud’s “Ad Astra.” The Choir was heavily complimented on their repertoire.
